The Morning After

Oh god.

The moment your eyes shot open, you were greeted by Gamzee Makara's sleeping face.

You did not just sleep with Gamzee. No.

However the memories of last night that haunted your hungovered ass proves otherwise. You knew that there was no way you'd fuck the juggalo with a clear mind, but unfortunately for you, last night your head was filled of brume and booze.

The first rational thought that you had not involving imagining his hot naked body directly over yours under the sheets was that you had to leave before he woke up, because then it’d just be really weird. But that was no easy task. Gamzee's entire torso lied on top of yours, while his head found perch on your chest.

Your first attempt of escape was to shimmy him off until you're free, but it was impossible. His girth was probably double your own. You doubted you could even throw him off you if you tried with all your might. So just like that, you regressed to watching him sleep.

The otherwise perfect face paint that perpetually laid on his face was barely even present anymore. Under its rubbery consistency lied the scars that stretched diagonally across his face. Other that, his face was completely free of any other faults. This was, you realized, probably the first time in a long time that you thought the Makara was attractive after a long time.

In spite of this, the thought of what occurred during and after his three years of being sober still refused to leave your mind. You heard that Karkat helped a lot, too. Eventually, everyone got him to regress back to his old, potheaded, less murderous self.

God, you had weird friends.

Anyway, you remained in complete silence as the distant bustle of the waking city made its way into the room through the open window. Soon after, as if woken by the breeze, Gamzee shuffles from his stupor. Gradually, he opened his eyes, revealing a din of purple.

“Good morning,” he rasped with the rough voice of his. Without waiting for your reply, he reached for the half-finished joint by the headboard, and lit it in a single brush of movement. Then, he reclined on the space next to you.

“Good morning to you too, Makara,” you said, whilst accepting his wordless offer for you to take a puff. As soon as he deposited the cancer-inducing stick into your hand, you took one long inhale before returning it back to him.

“You used,” he breathed in the smoke, “to call me Gamgam.”

“Did I?” you asked, despite knowing that you, in fact, did. You had some kind of puppy crush on the juggalo during a wide portion of highschool, and you were a lot closer to him then than you were now. The rift became apparent after his three years of sobriety. As his friend, you knew that you shouldn’t have allowed all the happenings during those years get to you.

But you did.

As his sis from another miss, you shouldn’t have turned your back to him.

But you did.

As a person who loved him deeply, you shouldn’t have given up on him.

But you did.

Up until this day, a flurry of guilt and regret had never failed to ravage your mind each time someone does as much as mention his name. But here he was now, burrowing his face on the crook of your neck, almost as if he gave no shits about your negligence. Before you could stop yourself, your hand roamed deep into the thick tufts of his raven hair, “Gamgam?”

You could feel him smile against your neck, “Hm?”

I’m sorry,” you whispered beneath your breath, barely audible. But you knew he’d heard, because as soon as you’d said it, he straightened himself up so that his gaze crossed with your own. There was always something about Gamzee that sent you on a rollercoaster ride of catharsis and happiness. Nostalgia raked your mind, and even more so when the tips of his fingers caressed your cheek.

“Don’t sweat it.” That was when he leaned into you – his lips against yours. For the first time in forever, it felt like you were finally okay. .
